About us

Dunedin Toy Library is run by parents, for parents. We are a group of volunteers who keep the toy library going week to week, from stocking shelves to sitting on the front desk.

The idea behind a toy library is simple. Kids grow out of toys quickly, and most families do not need to own every puzzle, game or outdoor toy their children will ever use. Instead of buying and storing everything, you can borrow what you need, use it for a fortnight, and bring it back.

Families join for a small annual fee. That covers borrowing toys, games and outdoor equipment, which you can swap over as your kids grow or get bored. We are open Saturday mornings and one weekday afternoon, and volunteers take turns being on the desk during those times.

We are for any family in Dunedin with young children, whether you are after something new to keep a toddler busy, a game for a rainy afternoon, or outdoor gear you do not have space to store at home.

Because we are entirely volunteer-run, the library only works because parents give a bit of their time. If you use the toy library, there is a good chance you will end up helping out too, whether that is a Saturday morning on the desk or lending a hand behind the scenes.
